To The Autism Mom With The Anxious Soul
…We Are Here For You!
Motherhood has never been an easy journey. It is a journey ridden with guilt. You are always worrying if your child will be OK when you’re not around. But it is particularly more challenging and lonely for autism moms. The constant anxiety, that you don’t get enough support. The constant worry that your child’s future is uncertain. These are only some of the silent burdens you carry.
If you are new to my blog, thanks for stopping by. I would also like to introduce myself. My name is Tiffany Simpson. I am a breakthrough Parenting Coach for autism families. I am also Super Mom to a 13 year old animation Developer with Autism. My journey as super mom became apparent 9 nine years ago. My son was diagnosed with autism. It was during this challenge that I embarked on a self-care journey. During this journey, I taught myself to create computer games and mobile apps, to help my son overcome challenges with his speech and social skills. The results were amazing. Today, he is 13 years old and has his own business teaching animation development. He has also produced his first animation development course. If you would like to learn more about our journey, please visit my about page.
Today, I would like to encourage you, autism mom, to change the perspective of your challenge. You have been given this task, because you are strong enough to carry the load. You are strong enough to make something beautiful come out of it. Of course, your journey will not look like other moms, whose children can access resources from a well developed community. But your journey allows you to create something that is uniquely different. As different as your life is. You get to escape the cookie-cutter lifestyle and create a life that is authentic. One that feels right to you. That is the encouragement I want to leave with you today. You are not stuck. You are just stuck trying to fit in. And guess what, you do not have to.
Today, I want to challenge you to take a step back and look at your life for what it is. Not the version you had imagined. And not the version your family and friends keep selling you. Look closely at your life. You will begin to notice that there are endless opportunities for you to create a like that is meaningful. There are many opportunities for you to solve problems and take a road that was not pre-designed by social norms. I know this might sound scary. But so does being normal. LOL!
In my book, Born to Thrive: Overcoming Challenges With Autism, I talk about the challenges that were unique to my circumstances as a single mom raising a son with autism. I also talk about the unique opportunities this challenge presented to create a life that made me feel alive.
Earlier in this post, I talked about creating games to help my son overcome challenges with autism. I was able to create my own breakthrough for my family. I didn’t get on a hamster wheel. I came up with a solution and executed it. I later went on to creating loads of award winning startups with my new skills as a self taught developer.
My son has his own business. And even though he does not fit into the classroom, he has a career and life that I can feel confident will be wholesome.
I would have never accomplished these things if I was focused on trying to fit in. What would have happened to my son if I had tried to cookie cut him to fit into society? I probably would have missed the opportunity to create something amazing. I would have missed the opportunity to have a happy thriving child. I took a bet on my family and won.
If you would like to learn more about my journey in more details, I suggest grabbing a copy of my book from Amazon. You can click here to download the Kindle version. I hope that my journey will inspire you. Being an autism mom is not easy. There were many times I thought the pressure was insane. The lack of support, the side way looks, the unwanted opinions and the list goes on. But being an autism mom gave me the chance to change the script and I took it.
I know that many who are afraid to venture out there. It is not easy going up against the status quo. But being an autism mom gives you the cover to be that rebel. And yes, It’s Time To Start a New Tradition with Your Autism Family. It is time to break the mold and be as unique as your journey.
